Evidence Based Birth® Seminar Series: How to Help Families get Evidence Based Care: Bridging the Evidence-Practice Gap

Did you know it takes 15-20 years to get evidence into practice? By coming together to learn about the latest research on childbirth, we can produce a ripple effect of positive change across our community! At this seminar, you will learn how to build bridges to create change, while also networking with other professionals and earning 1.5 contact hours!

Evidence Based Birth® is a continuing education provider for the Kentucky Board of Nursing # 7-0081. Nursing contact hours can be applied to most childbirth educator and doula certifications as well as the Certified Professional Midwife credential. This seminar has also been approved for 0.15 CEUs from the American College of Nurse Midwives (2017/088).

This Live activity, How to Help Families Get Evidence Based Maternity Care: Bridging the Gap between Evidence and Practice, from 01/01/2017 – 12/31/2017, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 1.50 Prescribed credit(s) by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Learning Objectives:
1. Define evidence-based care and discuss the difference between evidence-based care and routine care
2. Discuss the safety of local birth setting options
3. Demonstrate how birthing persons can talk with their providers about research evidence
4. Discuss how partners, doulas, and nurses can work together to provide labor support
5. Describe the benefits and limitations of birth plans
6. Discuss the human and legal rights of birthing persons
